I like to think my army band is chock-full of highly motivated individuals. High speed soldiers. Devoted. Dedicated. Always looking to get an edge on their musical craft and really focus on the task at hand. So, I thought I'd show you some pics to prove this characteristic, taken in an average rehearsal this past week.
And then there was some Texas Hold 'Em.
And of course the always pervasive pee-in-a-cup drug test. Sweet beans and gravy, we do this like every other month, I swear. Those army regs...
Sorry if this seems distasteful. But you know, it's nothing we don't see here first hand. Just the facts, people.
And in other news, I have a new favorite Sousa march, my liking for which has developed since being here. I know! How exciting! Move over Stars and Stripes (I know, it's a cliched favorite, but what can you do?), King Cotton is the new fav in town. Largely because the trombones have the melody at one point (second strain, second time through, if you're so inclined). Listen to it here if you like. Everybody loves a good march. DISCLAIMER: I take no responsibility for the tune getting repetitively STUCK in your head for multiple hours/days.
There's strong and then there's Army Band Strong.
boo Sousa marches and their stinkin' upbeats.
Good thing you have your camera and your imagination to keep you awake!
What could be better than a Sousa march, than one in which the trombones get the melody!!!
Up with Sousa!
